We’d like to take this opportunity to thank the Souris School Centennial Committee for the excellent Centennial celebration. It was truly a trip down memory lane for our group of six ladies who attended the celebrations.
Although the school has been refurbished since we attended in the late 1940’s and 50’s, as we toured it was amazing to see the excellent condition of the current facility. We enjoyed viewing the memorabilia which was displayed, in particular our Grade 2 class picture, which a group of us stood around reminiscing on Friday evening, working at filling in the names of those not as yet identified. We also enjoyed visiting with other former students we hadn’t seen in years, although the attendance from our era was a little disappointing.
When we were in Grade 5, a group of 10 of us formed a little Bingo club, and we got together once a month to play Bingo at one of our homes, taking turns hosting. We did this throughout the balance of our elementary school days, and in 2005, Fran Skjonsby organized a reunion for our group in conjunction with the Saskatchewan Centennial celebrations. Eight of us were present for that reunion, and nine of us were present for a second reunion in 2008. The Souris School Centennial presented an opportunity for us to be reunited again, although only this six were able to attend.
Fran Skjonsby volunteered to do the decorating on Thursday and Friday and we all pitched-in and enjoyed doing our part preparing for the celebration. The six of us then spent the balance of the weekend visiting, reminiscing, and planning for the next opportunity to get together to visit our old home town.
Very truly yours,
