Denise LaFrentz reacted to a friendly lick from her son Cody Ray’s steer at the Jackpot Steer Show at the Exhibition Grounds on July 6 at the Weyburn Agricultural Society Fair. Several 4-H competitions took place during the three-day event.

The Weyburn Agricultural Society held their 102nd annual Fair and Exhibition on July 5, 6 and 7, hosting several 4-H competitions, the Midway, pony and chariot races, a petting zoo, several exhibits and a talent contest.
The number of attendees was up 1,300 from last year, seeing 10,280 patrons attend the Fair during the three-day event. It didn’t meet the attendance of 2008, the Ag. Society’s centennial year.
“This year was close to 2008 which was a good year as well,” said Ag. Society secretary Shannon Sabados. “In 2008 we had 10,611 people.”
Many regional 4-H competitions took place during the Fair. Winner of the Grand Champion Steer went to Wacey McCaw of Cymri; Reserve Grand Champion Steer went to Robert Pineo of Weyburn; Sadie Anwender of Radville won the Overall Grand Champion Female; Reserve Grand Champion Female went to Nadya McKim of Milestone; Best Home Grown Steer and the Breeders Herd Award went to Daniel Fellner of Weyburn.
The Youth Talent competition was one of the highlights of the Fair. Paris Lyon won the junior portion and Brooke Alexander won the senior portion of the contest. Brooke was last year’s junior talent contest winner.
