Weyburn Police remove dynamite with help from Regina Bomb Squad

Report from the Weyburn Police Service from the period of July 19 to 25:

*On July 25, police attended to complaints of thefts from campers at River Park Campground. Some of the items were recovered. The matter is under investigation.

*On July 23, a citizen reported that he had purchased a vehicle and found some explosives in it. Weyburn Police and Fire Service members, along with Regina Bomb Squad officers, attended to the matter. Dynamite was removed from the vehicle and was taken to be properly disposed of. The matter is still under investigation.

*Police attended a complaint regarding an accidental shooting; injuries were minor and the matter is under investigation.

*On July 21, police received a call regarding a fraudulent telephone solicitation. The victim received a call from a male who claimed to be her grandson needing money. The victim did not believe the caller and hung up on him. Citizens are encouraged to call police and report any strange phone calls and record the telephone number if call display is available.

*On July 20, police attended to a break and enter at Crescent Point Place. Several tools were stolen from a construction crew that was working there. The matter is under investigation. Anyone with information about this occurrence is asked to call the Weyburn Police Service or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

*On July 19, police attended a minor motorcycle accident in the city. The driver received minor injuries and no charges were laid.

*Police were called to a complaint of prescription “double-doctoring” at a local pharmacy. The matter is under investigation.

*Police investigated a complaint of threats in which two Weyburn males were charged and placed on conditions of non-contact. They will be appearing in court in August.

*Weyburn Police, along with the SPCA, investigated two complaints of animal hoarding in the city. The matters are under investigation. Local city bylaws and the criminal code make it an offence for someone to have too many animals in their care.

* Police attended a fight in the mall parking lot; the matter was resolved without incident.

*Police attended to 137 calls for service during this reporting period, many of them alcohol related. Many thefts from vehicles were also reported.
