Beavers knocked out of playoffs

The Weyburn Senior Beavers have been knocked out of the Western Major Baseball League’s (WMBL) playoffs after losing in four games to the Regina Red Sox.

The Beavers opened their playoff run in Regina, July 30 with a 8-5 loss. The Red Sox scored seven runs in the first three innings on their way to taking game one. They added one more in the eighth while Weyburn scored one in the fifth, three in the sixth and once in the eighth.

Alex Gale started for the Beavers, with relief from Jeremy Zink and Braden Rudy.

Game two took place in Weyburn July 31 at Tom Laing Park with the Beavers suffering a 9-4 loss. Regina scored three runs in the first, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and added three more in the ninth. Weyburn managed to score three runs in the eighth and added one more in the ninth.

Jesse Elam started on the mound with relief from Micky Bullard.

The Beavers were back in Regina on August 1 taking game three 9-7. Weyburn came from a 7-5 defecit with four runs in the seventh inning to force a game four. Pinch hitter Braden Ruby cashed in with a two-run single to help secure the victory.

Phil Curtis started on the mound with relief coming from Morgan Cirbo.

Weyburn returned home for game four on August 2. The Red Sox came to play posting a 12-2 lead after just three innings on their way to a convincing 18-8 victory and a berth in the east division finals.

Julien Soucy started on the mound with relief from Jeremy Zink, Brad Weisgerber, Eric Evans and Alex Gale.

The Red Sox will meet Moose Jaw in the east division finals while the west division finals will see Okotoks facing off against Swift Current.
