Weyburn’s Allie Griffin Art Gallery will be hosting a touring exhibition by visual artists Alicia Popoff and Leslie Potter featuring their work “Third Sound.” The work consists of Popoff’s canvas paintings and Potter’s welded steel sculptures.
“Working in close proximity to each other we realize that we influence each other’s art,” said Potter. “More recently, however, we have become excited about how Alicia’s paintings resonate with my sculptures and vice-versa.”
“Alicia Popoff and Leslie Potter are making innovative new work that fuses their disciplines and reflects the dynamic of family values along with artistic self expression,” said Donald Stein, executive director of the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery and the curator of “Third Sound.”
The two artists will also be conducting three art workshops on Saturday, September 11 and Sunday, September 12 in Weyburn, to engage other artists and interested groups. The artists believe this will increase appreciation of contemporary art practices and the creative process involved in art making.
For more information on the workshops, “Welded Steel Sculptural Art” (2 days), “Creative & Innovative Approaches to Painting” (1 day) and “The Beauty of Abstraction” (1 day), go to www.weyburnartscouncil.ca, call 842-3922 or e-mail weyburnartscoun...@live.ca.
A public wine and cheese reception to meet the artists will be held at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery on Friday, September 10 at 7 p.m. The artists will also conduct a talk and tour of their artwork in the gallery.
The “Third Sound” exhibition will be on view at the Allie Griffin Art Gallery from September 1 to 30.
