Invisible or Not

Ministerial Column

I recently officiated my first Weyburn Minor Football game. I love football so I was really excited to be able to get on the field and be a part of the action.

We officials had a meeting before the game and talked about our areas of responsibility. The Head Referee talked about being invisible on the field. By this he meant let the teams play and only call necessary penalties.

In football, officials talk about advantage; if a player gets an advantage by breaking a rule then that is a must call.

I remember “linesing” a hockey game once and the first star of the game was the Ref. He called so many penalties that I think he was inventing new ones. No one had any fun; not the teams, the fans or me and the other linesman. A good official is for the most part an invisible official, they are there but you don’t notice them.

Many people think the same about God, we need him around but we don’t want to see him. The truth is if you open your eyes and look around He is everywhere, you can’t miss him.

Psalm 19:1-3 says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” “Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge.” “There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard.”

All around us is the evidence of the glory of God. The stars in the sky, the birds singing and children crying are proclaiming the glory of God.

The heavens and the sky speak of the glory of God. Everywhere in the world creation speaks about the Glory of God.

You may think that you don’t want to see God, but the next time you see a sunset, look up at the stars or hear a bird sing God is showing himself to you, if you look you will see Him.
