Busy season at Weyburn Leisure Centre

The new outdoor swimming pool at the Weyburn Leisure Centre had a busy summer, seeing more than twice the amount of patrons than last year.

The Weyburn Leisure Centre had a busy summer in 2010, with more than twice the patrons visiting than in 2009.

During the months of July and August, the Leisure Centre had 17,459 guests through its doors, compared to 7,486 patrons during the summer of 2009.

Program coordinator Tina Clay said the increased number of patrons was due to the new outdoor swimming pool, which opened on July 1.

The outdoor pool closed on August 29. This year there will be a two-week time period between the closing of the outdoor pool and the opening of the indoor pool, as opposed to the usual one-week time frame, in order to perform annual maintenance duties.

“We usually close for a week in June but because of construction of the new outdoor pool we didn’t close,” said Clay.

The indoor pool opens on September 13 and features several different programs for the fall and winter months.

Registration for children’s swimming lessons will take place on Monday, September 13 at 5 p.m. Two sessions of lessons will take place. The first session is between October 4 and November 8 and the second session is between November 15 and December 15.

Adult swimming lessons will take place from September 20 to November 29 every Monday from 8 to 9 p.m.

Several adult Aquatic Fitness Classes are also taking place at the Leisure Centre. Deep water fitness classes take place on Wednesday and Friday mornings from October 6 to November 5. Evening classes are also available from October 4 to December 15.

Low impact/shallow water fitness classes also take place on Wednesdays and Fridays. They run from October 6 to November 5 from 9:20 to 9:50 a.m.

Tuesday and Thursday morning classes begin October 5 and include Twinge ‘N Hinges from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and Bootcamp from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

Registration for fitness classes begins on September 6. Anyone who registers by September 27 will receive a 10 percent discount.
