One of Canada's most popular bands is looking forward to their upcoming concert in Estevan.
Pop-punk group Simple Plan will be bringing their "Get Your Heart On!" tour to Spectra Place in Estevan on Sunday, August 12. Estevan will be one of their three Saskatchewan stops.
Drummer Chuck Comeau said Simple Plan has been crisscrossing the globe during their tour, as they have visited Asia and Australia twice, in addition to their North American and European commitments.
The tour started in April of 2011, just before the release of their latest album – which shares its name with the tour. Simple Plan will perform at festivals and concerts in Canada after they visit Estevan, and then they will be in Mexico and South America in the fall.
"It's been really great," said Comeau. "We've been getting amazing reception for this album, and for all the singles. For a band that's been around for 12 years now, and had four albums, to have that kind of reaction, and to have that kind of enthusiasm for the music, it really is a gift."
People have loved the music on the album, he said. Not only have they received excellent feedback from their existing fan base, but they've garnered some new fans as well.
"Around the world, we've had great success with 'Jet Lag,' and now with 'Summer Paradise' – it's turning out to be one of the biggest hits we've had around the world in the last 10 years," said Comeau.
Once the current tour winds down, Comeau said the band will start to think about their next album.
Among Simple Plan's enduring traits has been their collective longevity. The five members – Comeau, lead vocalist Pierre Bouvier, bassist David Desrosiers, lead guitarist Jeff Stinco and rhythm guitarist and back-up vocalist Sebastien Lefebvre – have been together for well over a decade. Nobody has ever dropped out of Simple Plan.
"We know each other really well," said Comeau. "We went to high school together. We were friends before the band. We didn't get to know each other before the band; we actually were good friends before."
It's very rare for bands to remain together for more than a decade, he said, and they recognize the significance. If there's an issue or a creative difference, they always work it out, and they don't leave the room until the squabble resolved.
Canadian pop rock group Faber Drive will serve as the opening act in Estevan.
"We've toured with them before," said Comeau. "Pierre and I even wrote some songs with them for their new album, so we're definitely tight with them. They're super nice guys, they work really hard and they're super cool."
Comeau said the concert on August 12 is going to be a great show, thanks to the music that they'll be playing and the energy that Simple Plan will bring to the stage.
Tickets for the concert are still available. A dollar from the sale of each ticket will be directed to the Simple Plan Foundation.
Please watch next week's edition of Lifestyles for more on the concert.
