Several data sources suggest that children and youth are spending a lot of their after school time participating in sedentary activities, such as riding in motorized transportation, watching TV or using a computer or playing video games. The after school time period of 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. is a window of opportunity for children and youth to engage in physical activity pursuits.
The City of Weyburn is pleased to offer the Fun in the Sun Active After School Program to provide Weyburn and area children ages five to 11 with the opportunity to enjoy a rich variety of diverse and stimulating activities that are challenging and fun.
Kids can be creative, playful and imaginative while learning co-operation and respect for others and developing positive relationships. A core focus of the program is to place value on physical fitness, creative activity and healthy living.
The program runs Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from January 7 to May 31 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Sun Room at the Weyburn Leisure Centre. The cost is $10 per day or $25 per week.
The program offers a blend of sport, culture and recreation activities such as yoga, ZumbaŽ, soccer, snow shoeing and much more. Each week is something new and different and each day will include a craft, some physical activity and a healthy snack. Registration is currently open and space is limited, so register early to guarantee a spot.
