QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Survey results are meant for general information only, and are not based on recognised statistical methods.

Be part of the memories

In honour of Weyburn's 100th anniversary, the Weyburn Branch of the Saskatchewan Genealogical Society is currently collecting pictures of Weyburn and are asking for the public's help.

The group will be putting the pictures onto a DVD, which will be made available for sale.

Photos can be of buildings, businesses, sports, events (floods etc.), schools, churches, Legion, military, parades, groups or associations (Cubs, Scouts, bands etc.), Mental Hospital/Souris Valley, virtually anything interesting regarding the past 100 years of the City of Weyburn.

Also included should be identifying information such as names, year etc. Digital submission is preferred, with pictures scanned and emailed, but if that isn't possible, members of the local Genealogical Society can visit with a portable scanner or digital camera.

For more information on this project or to send pictures contact: Ilene Johnston at 848-0941 or by email to ile...@accesscomm.ca or Lorna Bossenberry at 861-1816 or via email to bossenbe...@sasktel.net.

The collection is already building, but one set of pictures they are looking for, in particular, is a picture of the bandstand in River Park.

Pictures must be scanned at a minimum resolution of 200 dpi and the output size should be set to 1000 pixels for the larger dimension (this may be the width or the height depending on the photo layout and the other dimension will change accordingly). The files must be saved as JPEGs. In the case of black and white photos, scan the image type as '8-bit grayscale' rather than 16-bit, though some scanners may only offer 'grayscale'. For a colour photo use '24-bit colour'.

The next Weyburn Branch SGS meeting is January 15 at 1:00 p.m. at the Weyburn Public Library and is open to everyone. All pictures collected to date will be reviewed/discussed and a name for the project will be chosen.
