Genealogical Society elects new executive

The Weyburn Branch of Saskatchewan Genealogical Society held their annual meeting on January 15.

President Ilene Johnston shared correspondence news that the Library and Archives Canada website is releasing the 1921 census records on June 1, 2013, and that the 1906 census records for the Northwest Provinces can now be searched by surname.

The Weyburn SGS also held their election. Elected were Ilene Johnston as president and in charge of the clipping library, Zelda Ness as vice president, Lorna Bossenberry as secretary/treasurer and in charge of publicity, and Audrey Wilkinson in charge of archiving. The publishing team consists of Ilene Johnston, Marlene Yurkowski, Gloria Onstad and Zelda Ness. Audrey Wilkinson, Charmane Johnson and Shirley Jacob are in charge of research. Gloria Onstad is in charge of Weyburn's 100th Anniversary Project, along with Audrey Wilkinson, Gerald Goski, Ilene Johnston and Lorna Bossenberry.

The City of Weyburn's Centennial project will be a collection of pictures of Weyburn. The Weyburn pictures in our collection were reviewed at the meeting. A picture of the bandstand in River Park has been located. Photos of the Soo Hotel and any orchestras and bands in Weyburn over the years are still needed.

The next regular meeting will be February 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Weyburn Public Library.
