January's Operation Hang Up, Buckle Up traffic safety blitz, focusing on non-seatbelt use and distracted driving, saw law enforcement issue 168 tickets to motorists across the province on January 17 and 18.

A total of 168 tickets were issued, including 50 for improper or non-seatbelt use, 33 for cellphone use while driving, 28 for aggressive driving (which includes speeding, not obeying traffic signs or stop lights, unsafe passing, etc.), 20 for obscured vision (specifically, failing to clear frosted windows), four impaired driving charges and 33 other tickets.

Last month's traffic safety blitz, Operation Overdrive, focused on impaired driving and took place throughout the entire month of December. That blitz saw law and traffic enforcement officers in Saskatchewan check more than 8,600 vehicles and issue more than 2,400 tickets, including 217 charges for impaired driving and 188 roadside suspensions.
