Weyburn Police Service received a complaint about the local MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) event that occurred in Weyburn on Saturday, September 28 to be illegal prize fighting. The matter is under investigation as to whether the event was legally sanctioned.
* Police arrested an intoxicated 28-year-old male on Friday, September 27, after receiving a report of a vehicle break in. The man was charged with mischief over $5,000 and assault. Further investigation revealed he had broke into a shed located on 5th Street. As a result, he was also charged with break and enter. Court is set for Tuesday, November 12.
* Police are reminding motorists to slow down in day care, park and school zones following complaints of excessive speed within these zones.
Also this week, police have received numerous complaints of motorists stopping and or parking in areas designated as no parking zones indicated by yellow curbs.
As a result, numerous people were charged under the City of Weyburn Parking By-law.
These types of no parking areas have been marked with public safety in mind. Parking fines range from $30-$120 depending on the offence.
The Weyburn Police Service is asking for all motorists to abide the no parking zones and also not use them as quick stops when picking or dropping off others.
*On Tuesday, September 24, police received a complaint of a theft of a stereo from a motor vehicle that was parked on 5th Street. There currently are no suspects and the matter is still under investigation.
*Charges have been laid in regard to an accident that had occurred on August 6, 2013. On that date Police had received numerous calls about a motor vehicle accident on Park Avenue involving a truck hitting a tree. After a lengthy investigation, a 19 year old male was charged under the Criminal Code with Impaired Driving Causing Bodily Harm, Driving over .08, and Dangerous Driving Causing Bodily Harm. Court is set for Tuesday, November 19.
