In this instant world, where we can access almost anything we desire, it's refreshing to pause to give thanks! And this is the weekend when we are reminded to do so. Too bad we have to be reminded, for everything that we have is a gift. We entered this world with nothing and we will leave it the same way. Meanwhile, when we begin to count all that we have, the list of things we are thankful for is long indeed, and our hearts overflow with gratitude. A bumper harvest, natural resources which bubble up from the ground, warm, sunshiny fall days, loving and being loved- there is so much!
This weekend is special for us- on a beautiful fall Saturday 50 years ago, we were married. So, every thanksgiving is an opportunity to give thanks to God for each other, for children and grandchildren, family who share love and laughter! Someone asked the other day if we would be renewing our wedding vows. We looked at each other in surprise and both said: "No! We don't think the warranty on the original ones is up yet!"
So please pause this weekend, to think of all that you are thankful for. Perhaps you will be gathering with family and friends around the thanksgiving table. Thank God for your family and friends, and for all the bountiful things that you have, because God has been good to you. Please pause to say thanks! I know that we will!
