Since moving to Weyburn I have been the Pastor of the Wheatland Community Church but I have also had the opportunity to be the Chaplain of the local Jr. team. You might wonder what the Chaplain of a Jr. Hockey team does. Well my role is to be the emotional and spiritual resource person for the team. I do chapel once every two weeks optional of course and I also try to connect with the guys as often as I can. I came by this responsibility through a organization called Hockey Ministries International. It started in the 1970's with professional hockey player who had a desired to start Bible studies with their team mates which developed into chapels and now the organization has chapels in 200 hockey teams across North America and Europe.
No matter who you are even if it's an athlete, you have needs and challenges that will get thrown at you and some have come to realize that may be the God of the universe wants to be a part of the solution. I have the opportunity to relate things about God to these young athletes. The Bible (Gods Word) actually talks a lot about sports and athletics. The Bible in Hebrews 12:1 says "let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.". 1Cor.9:24 says that in a race all the runners run but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.". God wants a relationship with you and one way he communicates with us is through the Bible. So whether you are a Athlete or a worker down the street God wants to be a part of your life. If people who have reached the height of success such as professional Hockey players see a need for God in their life maybe you are missing something that could change your life maybe it is God. If he can relate to an athlete may he has something for you.
