Wings drop home and home to Hounds

Weyburn Red Wing forward Braden Mellon chases the puck around the back of the Notre Dame Hounds net during their game February 8. The Hounds defeated the Wings in the home and home over the weekend. Friday, the Hounds won 4-1 and on Saturday night, the Wings lost 4-0.

The Weyburn Red Wings dropped a home and home over the weekend to the Notre Dame Hounds.

On Friday night in Wilcox, the Wings were defeated 4-1.

Coming off a seven game winning streak, the team didn't play to their potential.

"We weren't in the right mindset," said Coach Bryce Thoma. "We didn't decide to play until we were done three goals."

The last 14 minutes of the fourth period was hard played by the Wings and they managed one goal on a power play. Donavon Lumb scored from Nick Pouliot and Nathan Morris.

The Hounds shut out the Wings and scored four goals on Wings netminder Jack Burgart on Saturday night at Crescent Point Place.

"We had a ton of chances to score on Saturday night," said Thoma. "We just didn't respond in the right way. They just made mental mistakes."

The Wings hosted the Kindersley Klippers at Crescent Point Place on Thursday night. Results of the game were not known at presstime.

The Wings travel to Melville to meet the Millionaires on Saturday, February 15 and are back at home against the Klippers on Sunday, February 16 at 3 p.m.

"We have to get back to what was making us successful when we won those seven games in a row," said Thoma.
