The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Criminal Investigations Unit has laid three Customs Act charges following a firearm seizure at the Oungre port of entry on February 17.
CBSA officers examined a vehicle and seized a loaded 9 mm handgun, a loaded .380 caliber handgun and two high-capacity magazines.
The CBSA arrested John Chris Blanchard, 55, of Henderson, Texas. His next court appearance is in Regina Provincial Court on February 21.
This is the fourth firearm seizure in Saskatchewan this year.
In 2013, CBSA officers in Saskatchewan seized 24 undeclared firearms.
The CBSA advises travellers that they are required to declare all goods they are bringing into Canada, including any firearms and weapons in their possession. Failure to declare goods, including firearms, and other Customs Act contraventions may lead to prosecution in a court of law.
