Kindersley clips Weyburn on Sunday

Comments

Red Wings forward Josh Lees gets his stick in front of Kindersley Klippers defenseman Jarod Pilet during the February 13 match up of the two teams. The Wings defeated the Kippers in a 3-1 decision. The Red Wings currently sit in 10th place in the standings, three points up on the 11th place Flin Flon Bombers.

The Weyburn Red Wings fell 5-2 to the visiting Kindersley Klippers on February 16 at Crescent Point Place.

Head Coach Bryce Thoma said the Wings came out flat in and picked up the pace in the second and third period.

The Wings were down 4-0 going into the third period.

Braden Mellon started the scoring in the third period off the sticks of Shain Scheschuk and Brendan McKay.

Brian Farkas scored the second goal on a power play for the Wings with assists to Ty McLean and Cody Pettapiece.

"It may have been a different story had we played hard in the first period," said Thoma.

On February 15 in Melville, the Wings fell 5-2 to the moneymen.

Donavon Lumb was first to find the back of the Millionaires net from Brian Farkas and Nick Pouliot at the 11:15 mark of the first period.

McKay scored the second goal for the Wings with assists to Pettapiece and Colton Laroque.

"Melville has a good team and we made some mistakes we couldn't get out of," said Thoma. "I give Melville credit, they played well."

Earlier last week, the Wings met the Klippers on home ice. The Wings won 3-2.

"We played well from start to finish," said Thoma.

Scoring for the Wings were Matt Eng, Jacob Jeske and McKay.

The Wings currently sit in 10th place in the standings, just three points up on the Flin Flon Bombers with four games to go in the Wings regular season.

"We want to play well down the stretch," said Thoma. "We're three points up on the 11th place team. We want to win some games and force Flin Flon."

The Weyburn Red Wings played the Yorkton Terriers on February 20. Results of the game were not known at press time. Their next home game is Saturday, February 22 at Crescent Point Place against the Battlefords North Stars. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
