Beavers heading to playoffs

Weyburn Beavers Pitcher Riley Schaaf started the final home game of the regular season on the mound. The Beavers beat the Melville Millionaires 6-5 on July 29. In the first round of WMBL playoffs, the Beavers will meet the central division champion Swift Current Indians, with games 3 and 4 being played at Tom Laing Park on Sunday, August 3 and Monday August 4.

With the results from Monday, July 28 in the WMBL, the playoff picture has become a lot clearer. In fact, all four first round series opponents have been determined.

The Eastern conference series will feature the Weyburn Beavers meeting the central division champion Swift Current Indians.

Swift Current will host games 1 and 2 on Friday, August 1 and Saturday, August 2 at 7:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field in Swift Current, with the Beavers hosting games 3 and 4 on Sunday, August 3 and Monday, August 4 at 7:05 p.m. at Tom Laing Park.

Game 5 would revert back to Swift Current on Tuesday, August 5.

The Weyburn Beavers victory over Regina clinched a playoff spot for the Beavers. The win also gave the Lethbridge Bulls the WMBL regular-season pennant and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The Moose Jaw Millar Express victory over Melville eliminated the defending champion Millionaires from the playoff picture.

Swift Current officially clinched the Central Division with their victory over the Yorkton Cardinals although with the Millar Express win, Yorkton was able to also secure their birth to the postseason for the first time in five years.
