Back to School party with the Weyburn Street Fair and Trade Show

Comments

Summertime doesn't last forever, but before the school bell rings, the Weyburn downtown core will be hosting one last party.

An eclectic array of street performers, vendors, artists, musicians will transform the downtown core into a five block Back to School Street Fair and Trade Show on Friday, August 15 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday, August 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The event will feature sidewalk sales, home-based businesses, music and barbeques, children's events as well as a performance by The Extreme Tours which features skateboards, BMX bikes, some extreme tricks and some extreme bands.

"This street fair promotes local shopping awareness. We hope to eliminate the concept that downtown Weyburn has nothing. In fact, downtown Weyburn is full of shops and services," said event organizer and owner of Breathless Deb Tokarz.

The idea came after some smaller scale sidewalk sales were held, Tokarz said she saw how it benefitted the downtown core and decided to do one on a larger scale.

Tokarz said she and co-organizer Lisa Knox have been organizing home-based businesses as well as getting business owners in the downtown area on board for the sidewalk sale.

"The whole idea is having the community working together," said Tokarz.

The Extreme Tours will be performing at 5 p.m. on Friday. Brian Hopfe from the Weyburn Youth Centre said they are seeking out skateboard ramps and rails to set up for the performance. If anyone has any the Youth Centre may borrow for The Extreme Tour, they are asked to contact the Youth Centre.

The alternate location of The Extreme Tour performance will be at the skateboard park located behind Tags Youth Centre.

On Saturday, there will be different activities with local vendors on the street.

"Weyburn and surrounding area, let's have one last party before the kids go back to school," said Tokarz.
