MOSCOW - Olympic champion Carol Huynh of Hazelton, B.C., came from behind to capture a bronze medal in the women's 48-kilogram division at the world wrestling championships Wednesday.
She rallied to beat Iwona Nina Matkowska of Poland 0-2, 3-0, 2-0 in the bronze medal round. It's the fourth world championship medal for Huynh, who also has a gold from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Zhao Shasha of China took the other bronze with a 7-5, 4-0 win over Patimat Bagomedova of Azerbaijan. Hitomi Sakamoto of Japan beat Russia's Lorisa Oorzhak 1-2, 1-0, 6-0 for the gold.
Oleksandra Kohut of Ukraine defeated 2008 champion Yu Horiuchi of Japan 1-0, 2-0 in the final of the 51-kilogram category. Sofia Magdalena Mattsson of Sweden and Russia's Zamira Rakhmanova took bronze.
Jessica MacDonald of St. Catharines, Ont., lost her first-round bout.
The women's competition continues Thursday with Canadians Jillian Gallays (55 kg), Tonya Verbeek (59 kg) and Justine Bouchard (63 kg) all in action.
Meanwhile, Selcuk Cebi of Turkey captured the last gold medal on offer in the Greco-Roman program, defending his title in the 74-kilogram category by beating Arsen Julfalakyan of Azerbaijan 8-0, 1-0 in the final.
Imil Sharafetdinov of Russia and Daniyar Kobonov of Kyrgyzstan took the two bronze medals.
