A province-wide consultation by the provincial government in four areas, including of the government, the economy, infrastructure and education, began on November 22.
The consultation, entitled #TransformSK, will focus on the future of Saskatchewan, and will go several communities, including Weyburn on Wednesday, December 7, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Microtel Hotel meeting room. The series of meetings wraps up on December 15.
According to information on the process, the mandate of the consultation is “to develop the collective vision and action plan necessary to shape the next generation of provincial economic and social prosperity.”
This initiative will culminate in a final set of recommendations to be tabled with the premier.
The consultation is a joint project led by five of Saskatchewan’s most prominent business support organizations, including the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce, Saskatchewan Construction Association, Saskatchewan Mining Association, Saskatchewan Manufacturing Council and the Agricultural Producers Association of Saskatchewan.
Individuals or groups can make written or verbal submissions, or video, using the online platform, OneStory, or they can go to www.transformsk.ca for more information.
The consultation arose out of the 2016 budget, which set forward the need for “transformational change” to deal with a projected deficit of $434 million, to “find new fundamental approaches to balance the books, stimulate growth, and improve the quality of life for all Saskatchewan residents.”
The final report will be released at a summit bringing together the province’s foremost thought leaders, industry champions and policy makers.
