Police assisted the Weyburn Fire Department who had responded to a residential fire on May 4. The matter is still under investigation but appears to have been accidental.
As a result of a complaint on May 3, police attended a local bar where they located a 37-year-old male who was under court conditions to not consume alcohol. He was arrested and charged accordingly.
On May 1, police were called to a local business where a male person was located sleeping on the ground outside. As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old male was apprehended under the provisions of the Mental Health Act and eventually transported to the Psychiatric Unit in North Battleford.
Police were dispatched to a report of a two vehicle collision at 1st Avenue NE and 5th Street on May 1. A 16-year-old male was transported to the Weyburn General Hospital with minor injuries. He was subsequently charged with driving without due care and attention and issued a traffic ticket.
Police received a complaint of an erratic driver from a motorist on May 1. The suspect vehicle and driver were quickly located. As a result of the investigation the 30-year-old female driver of the offending vehicle was charged with using a hand-held electronic communication device while driving.
As the result of an ongoing investigation, a 35-year-old male was arrested without incident at his residence on April 30. He has been charged with three counts of assault causing bodily harm in regards to a series of domestic assaults and was held in custody. The accused also has a number of outstanding warrants from British Columbia for serious offences and will be returned to British Columbia to face charges there after the current charges before the courts are dealt with.
On April 30, police were called to a report of a theft from a local business. As a result of the investigation a 16 year old male was charged with theft under $5000 (shoplifting) and will be making a court appearance.
On April 29, Weyburn police received a report of a theft of a jacket from a local pub. As a result of video surveillance a suspect was identified and the jacket recovered. The victim did not wish to pursue a theft charge.
Also on April 29, police were dispatched to a report of a 51-year-old suicidal male in his residence. Upon arrival it was determined that the events were linked to ongoing domestic problems between the male and his 57-year-old wife. A 30-day emergency intervention order was obtained with the 51-year-old male being removed from the residence for a 30-day period. Alcohol was a factor, but the matter ended calmly and without further incident.
Police were called to two vehicle collisions on 4th Street on April 28.
The first incident occurred on 4th Street and Bison Avenue where a police investigation resulted in a 55-year-old male driver being charged with failing to yield the right-of-way. There were no injuries.
The second accident occurred on 4th Street at Prairie Avenue. As a result of the investigation a 42-year-old male was charged with a stop sign violation. There were no injuries.
A 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with minor injuries following a large disturbance at a local bar on April 27, involving him and a 21-year-old male.
Weyburn Police Service was able to break up the disturbance without incident. The matter is still under investigation.
