Exciting pro rodeo action will take centre stage in front of the Weyburn Ag Society’s grandstands from Friday, July 21 to Sunday, July 23, and for the first time, the added fun of a midway.
The excitement of bronc riders, team roping and bull riding will be supplemented for the first time this year with the Wild Rose Midway on Saturday and Sunday, providing fair rides and food for families to take in.
“This is something new that we’re going to try over the rodeo weekend,” said Tyler Metheral of the Ag Society. The weekend will get underway with the team-roping jackpot event on Friday, July 21, beginning at 6 p.m.
On Saturday, the gates open at 9 a.m. and the Dairy Queen Kids Rodeo will begin at 10 a.m. for children and youth competitors. The midway rides will open at noon and will go until 10 p.m. and the CCA pro rodeo performance will get underway at 6 p.m.
The day will finish out with the cabaret at 9 p.m. in the Curling Rink, featuring the Weyburn band, The Yahoos.
On Sunday, the CCA rodeo slack events start at 9 a.m., and the regular rodeo performance is at 2 p.m. The rides open at noon.
Throughout the weekend, the beer gardens will be open in the “Forge and Anvil”, the Chad Johnstone memorial building next to the grandstands, and the world’s largest cribbage board will still be in place from the Fair for people to play a hand of cribbage if they wish.
“We’re looking forward to bringing something different,” said Metheral. “If anyone missed out on our Fair, there’s always something to enjoy for everyone at the rodeo. We’ll continue with our mission, to entertain and educate our youth and the community.”
