The Southeast Newcomer Services will be hosting a water safety program for new residents, including new immigrants, at the Weyburn Leisure Centre, as a continuation of programs to introduce new Canadians to services and activities in the community.
The water safety program will be held on Sunday, March 26, and Sunday, April 2, from 9 a.m. to noon on both days.
The swimming program is open to all ages, and the cost is $3.50 per person per session. Space is limited to a maximum of 30 participants in each session.
There will be supervised swimming training provided by certified Red Cross water safety instructors.
To register for this event, those interested are asked to call the Southeast Newcomer Services office at 306-637-4920.
Newcomers recently completed a series of sessions of INVOLVE at the Weyburn Public Library held on consecutive Thursdays. INVOLVE stands for Integrating Newcomers with Volunteer Opportunities to add Leadership Value through Education.
It is being offered through Southeast Newcomer Services in partnership with the Multicultural Council of Saskatchewan and SaskCulture.
The program is to encourage and support new residents to become involved in the local community in local cultural, economic, social and civic-political systems, while preserving their cultural identity.
Integration includes a recognition of the contribution of all members, and reflection of all people and cultures in organizations, institutions, businesses and personal relationships.
This program is free, with refreshments and a lunch provided at no charge.
