GOSKI, Leonard

(Published in The Ottawa Citizen on July 3, 2014) It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard Goski, on June 30, 2014. Len was at home, surrounded by his family. He left this life as he lived it: strong, courageous and honourably. Len was born on July 18, 1942 to Joseph and Antonina Goski, in Weyburn, Saskatchewan. At 18 years old, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces; he earned his commission in 1967. Throughout Len's career, he had served in Canada, Europe, the US and Somalia. After 36 years of honourable service, he finished his career in Military Intelligence in 1996, retiring at the rank of Major. He lived life to the fullest and remained steadfast in his passions, which included: photography, western music, cooking, golf and his family. Len is survived by his wife of 47 years and best friend, Mary; his children: Steven, Leah and Jeff, Shane and Jessica and his grandchildren Autumn and Cole. He is also survived by his brothers, sisters and nieces and nephews. He will be reunited with his granddaughter, Chiara and his parents. Friends and family are invited to visit Beechwood Funeral, Cemetery & Cremation Services, 280 Beechwood Avenue (east of Vanier Parkway) on Sunday, July 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Monday after 12 noon.
