The big news was the Beavers head coach Phil Curtis was named as the WMBL coach of the year.

Curtis joined the Beavers as a player midway through the 2010 season as a right-handed pitcher. He played three seasons and was signed as rookie head coach for the 2013 season. Under the guidance of Curtis, the Beavers have steadily improved, making the playoffs in all three seasons. In 2015, the team recorded the most regular season wins (31) in franchise history along with the securing the WMBL east division title.

The Beavers defeated the Edmonton Prospects 4-2 Wednesday and have advanced to the second round of playoffs, which begin Saturday at Tom Laing Park.
