Benson wins Scholastic Player of the Year

The Saskatoon Blades wrapped up their most successful regular season in franchise history on March 19 with a 4-2 victory over the Regina Pats.

The Saskatoon Blades wrapped up their most successful regular season in franchise history on March 19 with a 4-2 victory over the Regina Pats. At the post-game Awards Ceremony, Weyburn's Brent Benson was named as the Saskatoon Blades Scholastic Player of the Year.

LeagueCommissioner Ron Robinson presented the Blades with the Scotty Monroe Memorial Trophy for achievingfirst place statusin the Western Hockey League at the end of the regular season. This marks the fourth time in their 47-year franchise history that the Blades have won the league title. This season's 56 wins and 115 pointsalso set new franchise records.

The Blades, rankedsecond overall in the Canadian Hockey League behind the Quebec Hockey League's St. John's Seadogs, begin playoff action at home on March 26 and 27 when they take on the Prince Albert Raiders in the best of seven series.
