Former Weyburn resident and NFL player Brett Jones provided a Christmas supper to community members through the Salvation Army on Monday evening, served to 110 people at the Captain’s Hall.

Jones, who was born and raised in Weyburn and played his minor football here before moving on to university and a pro career, provided a video message to all of those in attendance.

The turkey supper with all the trimmings was then served to those in attendance, by the officers and staff of the Weyburn Salvation Army.

“The place was full, as more people were out this year than last year,” said Edwin Eberle of the Captain’s Hall.

He estimated last year’s crowd was around 90-95 people, and said it was good to see the hall filled up for the supper, which was arranged for and paid by Jones.

“It was good. He wanted to do this for the community. The people really appreciated it, and they all had a good time,” said Eberle.
