The South Saskatchewan First Responder Conference Committee (SSFRCC) will be hosting the 17th annual First Responder Conference.
The conference will be held at the Heritage Inn in Moose Jaw this weekend, January 27 to 29.
This conference style training session accommodates training for First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Primary Care Paramedics (PCPs). Each year they host between 150 and 250 participants from all over the province.
Included in the weekend will be hands on educational sessions led by all level of Paramedics who volunteer their time and are also from all over the province. There will be guest speakers speaking on topics close to their heart
This year the focus is on trauma and a special session on grain related incidents Tim Hillier from Saskatoon, who is a recognized international speaker in the world of EMS, will present a couple of topics. Other featured guests include George Hleiboff from Regina, STARS training people in air way management, and the most unusual guest speaker is the PTSD dog Kane.
First Responders are an extension of EMS. They are volunteers who live in rural communities who have taken extensive training and are licensed with Saskatchewan Health. They have at hand the required equipment to provide care to the sick or injured until the ambulance arrives. First Responders are dispatched by EMS centers. They respond from their rural homes and usually arrive quickly at the patient’s side. They provide assessment and treatment until EMS arrives.
There will be many opportunities for multi-disciplinary media. It is our hope that you will find the time to come and promote these dedicated volunteers to the rest of the province.
