The Weyburn 4-H Beef Club had its organization meeting on October 26.

The club has 40 members registered this year. Daniel Fellner was elected president and Rylan Knupp was elected vice president. Riley Croal is the secretary and Jacey Fellner is the treasurer. Jackson Goudy is the club reporter this year. Carla and Mike Fellner are the project leaders once again and Rhonda Croal and Tina Clay have the responsibility of general leader.

The club sent three teams to Canadian Western Agribition for the team grooming event. In the Intermediate division, Matt Charlton, Austin Knupp and Jenna Knupp took home third place overall. In the senior division the club had two teams represented and dominated the event.

The first place team was Rylan Knupp, Jacey Fellner and Riley Croal. Second place also from the club was Kylie Berner, Billy Goudy and Jackson Goudy.

The club had several members showing the purebred shows as well. Matthew Charlton took part in the Hereford show, Kylie Berner in the Maine show and Rylan Knupp was in the shorthorn show. Rylan has had a busy fall on the show circuit already. He participated in the Brandon fall show where he had the champion shorthorn, the Toronto Winter Fair where he placed third in class, and at Agribition he had the grand champion senior heifer calf and overall champion female. The Kot family was also over participating in the bison barn.

The 4-H members are active in their own projects as well as helping family in other areas of the livestock industry. The 4-H program helps teach responsibility in looking after their own project animals but also teaches the value of hard work. It is also a great source of networking and helping to make lifelong friends.

The club has already been out working the Red Wing games. They can be seen selling 50/50, taking tickets at the door or in the ice cream booth. Don’t hesitate to talk to the members about the club and their project animals.

Even the members who haven’t been actively showing are working with their animals getting ready for the year. They also will be getting their club donation together for the Humane Society in January. Each member brings items to help the Humane Society to run. It is the club’s way of giving back. The 4-H club also had a bowling, pizza Christmas party meeting. A great time was had by all. The weigh-off day is scheduled for Dec. 30 where the steers are weighed so members know exactly what the animals are weighing and can compete for the club rate of gain competition. The next club meeting will be Jan. 10.
